Getting around New York City
So we are going to New York for the first time and I was wondering how to get around the city. So rather than just seeing what happens, I called my old friend, Ira Riklis to help me out and help me out he did. Here is what He had to say about getting around the BIG NY.
"Trying to find the best way to get around New York can be pretty hard due to all the traffic and other things that can happen. If you are just visiting New York ,getting around can seem confusing and time consuming but there are some choices that can make it even easier. Some of the best modes of transportation in the state can be either using the subway, taxi or train."
Ira Riklis went on to say, "Sometimes the traffic and crowds can seem like getting anywhere is impossible, but in reality it is not. Two of the best ways to get around New York is to use either a bus or the subway. If you are visiting, the subway is the best way to get around and it is very inexpensive as well as efficient. Subways serve most of the outer areas of New York and most of the area of Manhattan. In the area that you cannot get to a subway, you can consider using the bus. They can get you where you are going in good timing."
He told me that "The average bus fare in New York runs about $2 per trip. If you are going to be doing a lot of sightseeing for the day, you can purchase something called a Fun Pass for a small $7.50 that can last for up to a week. "
I then asked, "what about the taxi? Oh Ira said, yes, another form of transportation that is very popular is the taxi. Taxis are one of the most convenient ways to get around town. They are very affordable contrary to popular belief. One of the best things about taking a taxi, is that you do not have to wait around, you can move with a group at the same time and they take you right to your destination. Getting a cab is as simple as stepping off the curb and holding your arm out. There are limits to how many people can ride in a taxi. There is only a maximum of four people and a any children under the age of 7 must sit on a passengers lap in the rear seat. It can be very hard to get a taxi in New York when it is raining. You cannot call for a taxi in New York, must arrange for a pick up through a car or livery service. The minimum charge for a taxi fare in New York is $2.50 and there are additional charges of $.40 per 1/5 of a mile."
Transportation is very easy to find, if you know what you are doing and where you are going. You may want to consider mapping out your destination before leaving to decide in which transportation would be the best for you. All transportation in New York is relatively affordable and is a great way to get around. Visiting New York can be one of the best experiences in the world. Finding the right transportation is one of the things that can make your vacation or make it unable to enjoy. You should use all modes of transportation to the best of your ability and choose the right one to get you to your destination the fastest.
